Meijer Family Spotlight

February 2024

Welcome to our Meijer Family Spotlight Series, where we’ll feature just a few of the 2,300 families we’re providing with beds and furniture each year.

Each family who is featured will receive a $250 Meijer gift card… and we thank Meijer for their generous support of the Furniture Bank and the families we serve!

The Courtney Family

When the landlord told CeCe that her lease would not be renewed since her family was too large to occupy the two-bedroom townhouse she was renting, her family was left without a home for several months last year. The close-knit family was torn apart, forced to live with several relatives, or in motel rooms and even camping tents.

When the landlord told CeCe to gather up her four children, and leave because her family was too large to occupy the 2-bedroom townhouse she was renting, she was devastated and homeless for several months.

Fortunately, she was referred to Lighthouse of Oakland County, the Community Housing Network, and the Furniture Bank. “They all worked hard to help me provide my kids with a new home where they can now thrive in school and sports,” she said.

The Furniture Bank provided CeCe’s family with two nightstands, a living room chair, plus pillows, sheets and a comforter for each child. CeCe said that she was particularly grateful for the bedding because it’s important that her kids get a good night’s rest.

As a busy mom working in a doctor’s office and managing her own non-profit, making ends meet is difficult. The Furniture Bank was able to provide CeCe’s family with two nightstands, a living room chair, plus pillows, sheets and a comforter for each child. CeCe said that she was particularly grateful for the bedding because it’s important that her kids get a good night’s rest.
