Who We Are
Providing essential furniture to Metro Detroit families in need for over 6 decades.
Our Mission
As the oldest furniture bank in North America, we have served nearly 80,000 Metro Detroit families.
Our mission is clear: to provide gently used furniture to neighbors in need. We aim to give stability and dignity to families overcoming challenges such as homelessness, domestic violence, extreme poverty, or sudden crises like fires or floods.
Our Vision
We believe in the power of giving and receiving to transform lives—restoring dignity, pride, and hope for a brighter future. With the support of our network of partners, we empower children and families to rebuild their lives, one home at a time.

A Message from Our President & CEO, Diane Charles
When people ask me where I’m from, I proudly say, ‘Detroit.’ I love so much about this region—our passion for sports, our incredible work ethic, and, above all, our spirit of generosity. Detroiters have always given generously of their time, talents, and resources.
Thanks to supporters like you, we provide 20,000 pieces of furniture each year, transforming 2,500 houses into homes for families starting over. With your help, these families have beds to sleep on, tables for meals, and sofas to gather around—a place they can truly call home.
Our work is far from finished. Every day, families wait for the essential furniture and mattresses they need to make a home. While we’re committed to reaching as many families as possible, we need your help to get there. When you donate furniture or funds, or share our mission with others, you help create lasting change.
Together, we can reach more families, one home at a time. Your support fuels our vision, bringing dignity, stability, and hope to those who need it most.
On behalf of our staff, board of directors, and especially the families we serve—thank you for making our mission a reality.
