A Special Message from Lila Lazarus
BRACE YOURSELF: 20,000 kids in Detroit don’t have beds—they go to sleep on the floor every single night. As a lifelong Detroiter and health reporter, I’ve seen a lot, but this one stopped me in my tracks.
When my friend Diane Charles from the Furniture Bank told me about this crisis, I knew I couldn’t just sit by. I don’t have $3 million to buy 20,000 beds, but I do have a goal: raise $100,000 to make a real difference.
Detroit is buzzing with energy—the Lions are on fire, and the city feels more united than ever. We love this city because it’s tough, resilient, and full of heart. Now, we have a chance to prove it again by helping these kids.
A bed is more than just furniture—it’s security, comfort, and the dignity every child deserves. Can you help? Or maybe you know someone who can? Even a small contribution will make a huge impact. Let’s do this together for the kids of Detroit.
