Jerika’s Story: From Hardship to a Home Full of Hope

Jerika's family

Jerika Jones was introduced to the Furniture Bank at a very difficult time in her life. She had been in a car accident that caused her to lose her job and a recent separation from her husband added additional financial hardship.

With her two sets of twins – ages fifteen and twenty-one – living with her, her family was in a difficult place. They did not have beds or furniture, so they were forced to sit on the floor and sleep on air mattresses.

“I became very depressed. We were living on the floor before receiving assistance from the Furniture Bank,” says Jerika.

The Furniture Bank provided Jerika’s family with sofas, beds, dressers, tables, and chairs. She and her children can now sit at the table to eat a meal – they even enjoy building puzzle together! She now feels ready to move forward in a healthier way.

“Now we can enjoy dinner together,” says Jerika. “We also received dressers to help organize and store items – it was so hard to find decent quality dressers on our budget. My house is now a home, and I am so thankful!”

Jerika’s is one of 2,300 families the Furniture Bank helped in 2022, providing 18,500 items valued at more than $1 million. Her family has received a $250 Meijer gift card, with which they can put food on the table they received, or clothing in their dresser drawers.

The Furniture Bank thanks Meijer for their support of this program… and Jerika’s family was able to show their appreciation while attending a recent Pistons game!
