A Foundation for Success: Tarece Gary’s Story

Gary family

Tarece Gary, a single mother of eight children, was referred to the Furniture Bank by Wayne Metro, which has a number of programs aimed at helping families obtain affordable, sustainable housing.

Beds and furniture are a key, and often overlooked, component of stable housing, as they allow families to live with the dignity and basic comfort that many of us take for granted.

As a single mom, making ends meet with a one parent income can be difficult to manage. Through the Furniture Bank’s Furniture for Families program, however, Tarece’s family was able to receive dressers, living room furniture and a dining set.

She was particularly thankful for the beds her family received because it allows her children to consistently get a good night’s rest. In addition to furniture, Tarece’s family received smaller housewares such as pots, pans, dishes, utensils, bedding, and towels.

“I would recommend the Furniture Bank to anyone that needs beds and furniture for their family.”, says Tarece. “I am grateful for the furniture we received.”

Tarece currently works as a hair stylist and hopes to open her own salon within the next 5 years, and with her Meijer gift card she can put more food on the table for her family. The Furniture Bank is so glad to be able to help her family and wishes her the best in all her future endeavors!
