services we provide

The Furniture Bank is the only organization in Southeastern Michigan that distributes home furnishings to families and individuals in crisis, without charge.

Imagine for a moment what your house would be like with no furniture. Self-sufficiency is very difficult to achieve when your primary worry is that your children are sleeping on the floor and you have no way to make them dinner.

Since 1968, Furniture Bank of Southeastern Michigan has helped people turn an empty house into a home so they can focus on steady employment and self-sufficiency.

With your help, Furniture Bank plays a crucial role in providing the household items necessary for a stable home environment - chairs to sit in, a stove to cook on and a bed to sleep in!

People seeking assistance include the homeless, the working poor, victims of fire, and families fleeing domestic violence.

Furniture Bank Programs

Furniture For Families We “furnish hope” to families that need essential household items. Families come to our warehouse, to choose from the gently used donated items, at no cost. Demand always exceeds supply.

Appliances Donated Appliances are in very short supply. To alleviate the long waiting list, we purchase new refrigerators and stoves and ask clients to make a small copayment. If a client cannot afford a new appliance, they remain on our waiting list for a free donated refrigerator or stove.

Beds Dignity and respect are difficult to achieve when you’re sleeping on the floor. We collect and distribute over 2,700 used mattresses and box springs each year.

Cribs for Kids Infants are at risk of injury or death when they are sleeping with a parent. This program provides cribs and mattresses for this very vulnerable population.
