Furniture Bank Expands Services to Macomb County
The Furniture Bank of Southeastern Michigan is pleased to announce the opening of a new location serving Macomb County. The new facility is at 24882 Forterra Drive in Warren, off 10 Mile just west of Schoenherr.
According to Furniture Bank Director Colette Kelly, service at the location will begin July 10, 2007. The new facility will initially be open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:0am to 4:00pm with expanded hours once the location is fully staffed.
The Furniture Bank is a partner agency of United Way for Southeastern Michigan. It serves the clients of local and national charities and government agencies by providing their low-income families with gently used furniture, beds and appliances. The furniture is free-of-charge to all Furniture Bank clients who have been referred by a human service agency.
Ms. Kelly said, “We’re really in the business of furnishing hope to those in need. Our clients include families who have lost everything due to fire; women and children from abusive situations who are beginning life over; and formerly homeless families making a new beginning. Did you know some parents can’t pick up their new baby from the hospital because they don’t have a crib at home?” she continued. “Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we provide those cribs.”
The Furniture Bank accepts gently used furniture and appliances from donors throughout most of Oakland and Macomb Counties. Furniture pick-up can be scheduled by calling the Furniture Bank at 248-332-1300.
Ms. Kelly noted, “We have two trucks working six days a week. It’s great to see people’s discarded furniture and appliances going to people in real need rather than to re-sale shops or landfills. Donors can also drop off items at our new location or at the Oakland facility, 333 North Perry in Pontiac.”
